THE LANDSCAPE

The Pavilions

Situated on a 190-acre hilltop site with vistas of the Catskill Mountains, Art Omi Pavilions’ privileged location in the Hudson Valley is central to the visitor experience, and its construction will be designed to maintain open sightlines; provide scenic walking trails to both visitors and local communities; nurture and enrich local vegetation; and completely offset its carbon footprint once in operation, its 18 unique structures each a distinct model of sustainable design.

The restorative landscape and sweeping views evoke the rich, centuries-long history of the Hudson Valley as a site of natural inspiration for artists, from the Hudson River School to the present day. Once complete, the campus is meant to be enjoyed by visitors and local residents alike.

Art Omi Pavilions is working with Assemblage Landscape Architecture toward a regenerative design for the site. The campus will be landscaped in order to not only maintain, but enhance the ecological health of the original site and surrounding area. Additionally, Art Omi Pavilions is conceived to be carbon neutral once in operation, with a combination of renewable inputs and efficiency measures designed to offset 100% of the anticipated energy usage on site.

Once complete, this unique project will be an example of 18 individual carbon neutral buildings, designed by 18 different architect teams with a wide-ranging approach and aesthetic standards. With designs that include locally milled timber frame to 3D printed low-carbon concrete, the buildings are imagined as a collection of possibilities for sustainable design and construction techniques.
