Hort Family Museum

designed by

BKSK with Michael and Susan Hort
Opening Late 2026

Susan and Michael Hort began collecting in 1985 and quickly amassed one of the most important contemporary art collections of the past 50 years, with a focus on “collecting in depth and supporting young artists”. Their collection supports museum loans around the world, and every year thousands of art professionals visit their collection in New York City.

In 1995 the Hort family and friends of Rema started the Rema Hort Mann Foundation, in honor of their daughter Rema who died of cancer. The Foundation’s Emerging Artist Award has to date awarded $9,000,000 to the next generation of artistic talent. In addition, the Foundation’s Peter Hort Quality of Life Cancer Grant, in honor of the Horts’ son Peter who died in 2022, brings family members and loved ones together in order to provide much needed support while a patient is undergoing treatment, so
they are not alone.

The Hort Family Museum is designed in collaboration with BKSK Architects, and will host exhibitions showcasing both established artists and underrecognized practices. BKSK Architects is a New York City-based architecture and interior design firm specializing in design that is socially, contextually, and ecologically engaged. The firm’s diverse range of work includes award-winning cultural, civic, educational, and multi-family residential projects.
